Once you verified your e-mail address and provided your personal information, you can start applying for jobs.

As a new Coopler, finding jobs might take you a bit of time. In the beginning, you will need to send as many applications as possible to get hired. This happens because companies like to hire Cooplers they know or Cooplers who have worked for other companies in the platform and have good ratings.

This is why we have put together 10 tips to help you get your first job with Coople. Once you complete a few shifts and get ratings, your profile will be more attractive for hiring managers. These tips are also great if you are an experienced worker who wants to get more jobs on the platform.

1. Be an early applicant

Some companies want to hire fast. When you search for jobs, notice a label called  “Be an early applicant”. We recommend you apply for these jobs. Your profile will be among the first ones that appear on the hiring companies applicants list!

2. Apply for night shifts

Some jobs have a label that says “Has night shifts”. We recommend you apply for these jobs. They have less competition than other jobs with regular working hours and also pay a higher wage.

3. Apply for last-minute jobs

Sometimes, companies need staff urgently. Maybe a Coopler cancelled last-minute because of an accident. Or a member of their internal team called in sick. There are also times when unplanned events increase the demand for staff. For example, a sudden summer storm will bring more customers than expected into indoor hospitality venues. Hiring managers will thus look at bringing in additional waiting staff.

Whatever it may be,  when companies need staff urgently, Cooplers can save the day. We will send you an email and app notification asking you to apply for a last-minute job if you’re available. These jobs will usually be staffed on a first-come, first-served basis, which highly increases your chances of being hired. Please make sure you can make it to the shift before you apply.

4. Stay active on the Coople Jobs App

We recommend you open the Coople Jobs App every day, and at least once a week. We send more job requests to Cooplers that are actively applying.

Make sure you sign in regularly, apply for jobs proactively and have good ratings. If you don’t sign into the app for an extended period of time, our algorithm will stop sending you job requests as we understand that you’re not interested in flexible jobs anymore.

5. Choose novice job profiles in high demand

There are many jobs in high demand where you don’t need previous experience to apply, just your willingness to learn and work hard.

Waiters, Cleaners, Cloakroom attendants or Bike couriers are just a few of the roles that admit novice experience with no other education, diploma or previous work experience required.

The only thing you need to do is to add them as job profiles. We will automatically approve them without having to check your CV.

6. Turn on your notifications

Go to Account > Settings > Notifications and enable the notifications for automated job matches and personalised Coople offers. This way, you won’t miss any opportunity to apply for jobs!

7. Add great photos

The first thing a hiring manager will see is your profile picture. Always have a recent photo in your profile. We recommend you clearly show your face, pose in front of a neutral background, and be the only person in the picture.

It’s a good idea to upload other pictures that tell your professional story. For example, chefs can upload a picture with their uniform, couriers might pose with their bikes and bartenders can show their cocktail making skills.

8. Present yourself

Hiring managers will also read your ‘About me’ section to get a better idea of who you are. Make sure you write one, as it will help you stand out from the crowd.

9. Add all your professional documents

Keep your CV up-to-date. We recommend you update it every 6 months to reflect your latest experience.

Make sure all your details are also up to date, like your Right to Work documents, VISA or residence permit and payment information.

It’s always a good idea to include other documents that validate your skills. Driving licenses, language diplomas or training and educational certificates will help you get a wider variety of jobs.

10. Work well to get rated

One of the most valued quality metrics for hiring managers are ratings. This is because only other companies can rate your work and your skills after you have worked with them.

Give your best at work and you will likely get 4-star ratings after your shifts. If you’ve received a poor rating and you feel it’s unfair, go to the Help Centre from the app and talk to us. We’ll be happy to help.

The bottom line is...

We strongly encourage you to follow the steps above, be patient and keep trying.

Coople is like any other job marketplace. It will take you a few applications to land your first job. In the meantime, you can learn how to optimise your profile, and apply these tips to get you going. Once you get a few jobs, get 4* ratings and build your reputation as a trusted Coopler, it will be easier to find more work, gain skills and take your career to the next level.

Keep applying for jobs, you will get there!
