What is an AHV number?
The AHV (OASI) number is your personal social insurance number in Switzerland.
It consists of 13 digits in the format 756.XXXX.XXXX.XX.
Every person has one AHV number, and it is valid for life.
The AHV number is used to clearly identify you within the Swiss social security system. When registering in the Coople app, you must not use a foreign social security number. Swiss AHV numbers always start with “756”.
What is the AHV for?
The AHV (Old-Age and Survivors’ Insurance) is part of Switzerland’s 1st pillar and forms the foundation of the country’s social security system.
The AHV has two main functions:
To provide financial security so that no one is left without income in retirement
To provide survivor’s benefits for spouses and children if someone passes away
Everyone who lives or works in Switzerland contributes to the AHV — including non-employed persons such as students, retirees, homemakers, or unemployed individuals.
AHV contributions are deducted directly from your salary and transferred to the compensation office by your employer together with their share.
Where can I find my AHV number?
You can find your AHV number in several places:
on your health insurance card
on your insurance certificate or in your social insurance documents
on your payslip
on your salary certificate or in your tax documents
If you need your AHV number to register in the Coople App and cannot find it, you can request it from your health insurance provider or your most recent employer in Switzerland.
How do I get an AHV number if I am new to Switzerland?
You do not need to apply for your AHV number yourself. It is created automatically once you are registered in the Swiss system — either through:
your health insurance provider, when you first register in Switzerland
your first employer, when you start working in Switzerland for the first time
Your AHV number will then be sent to you by post or will appear on your health insurance card.
If Coople is your first employer in Switzerland, please inform us so that we can register you with the compensation office.
Why do I need to provide my AHV number?
Coople needs your AHV number to register you correctly with the Swiss social insurances:
AHV/IV/EO
Unemployment insurance (ALV/UI)
Pension fund (BVG), if applicable
Accident insurance (UVG)
Your AHV number is also required for registering and processing withholding tax, if you are subject to it. Only the correct AHV number ensures that your mandatory insurance contributions are recorded properly.
What happens if I provide an incorrect AHV number?
If you provide an incorrect or incomplete AHV number, the following issues may occur:
Coople may not be able to register you with the social insurance institutions.
Your contributions may not be recorded properly, causing problems later (e.g., pension rights, unemployment benefits, sickness or accident allowances).
Your identity may need to be checked manually, causing delays.
Insurance providers may not be able to identify you clearly, which can delay or distort benefit calculations.
If you are subject to withholding tax, it may be impossible to prove the tax already deducted — which may lead to additional payments.
Providing an incorrect AHV number on the Coople platform or to Coople is strictly prohibited and constitutes a serious breach of duty. The use of an inaccurate AHV number can lead to consequences under applicable criminal law. Coople reserves the right to take immediate action in cases of suspected false information, including suspending the account, terminating assignments with immediate effect, initiating legal proceedings, and, where applicable, claiming damages.
